Waiheke Distilling Co is Waiheke Island’s boutique gin, vodka and RTD distillery set among lush gardens, crafting organic and sustainable spirits that reflect the island’s coastal soul.
Nestled in a gently sloped garden above Cowes Bay, Waiheke Distilling Co was established in 2018 by Liz Scott and Glen Cadwallader with the aim of creating artisan gin and vodka true to the land, sea and wind of Waiheke Island Over the first two years, they planted a bee‑friendly, spray‑free botanical garden featuring lemongrass, coriander and kawakawa. The ingredients that now appear in their spirits from garden to bottle.
Distillation takes place in a handcrafted copper pot still perched in rustic woolshed buildings that evoke the island’s pastoral history. The venue marries authenticity and hospitality: visitors can tour the distillery, explore the botanical gardens, and enjoy garden‑bar tastings with views over the Hauraki Gulf. Their dedication to sustainability is demonstrated through water‑wise processes and composting of spent botanicals.
Since opening, Waiheke Distilling Co has earned multiple awards for their spirits - Uncharted Barrel Aged Gin picked up double gold at the NZ Spirit Awards 2024, Spirit of Waiheke won a Champion award at NZ Small Batch Gin awards in 2024 and Red Ruby won a Silver award at World Gin Awards 2023.
